Ila Barlean – Barlean Balance

Ila Barlean is a Personal Strength Trainer whose goal is for each and every client to get to know their own body at a cellular level and to create play in that process.

Ila was born in Canada and raised in a single parent family in Bellingham, Washington. An energetic child, Ila was enrolled in track and field at the age of six. She quickly excelled in this sport as a high jumper, hurdles, long jumper, 100 meter and 200 meter, even placing second in the 100 meter at the Junior Olympics. Ankle and knee injuries switched Ila’s focus to swimming placing as a double champion in high school and earned a four year scholarship for swimming to Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. A choice to move and work in Japan instead of Canada to train for the Olympics ended her swimming career but opened her interest in nutrition and its affects on her training. Returning to the state, Ila began training her first clients and has completed in three bodybuilding shows and placed 5 th, 7 th and 2 nd. She also enjoys outrigger canoeing, Olympic lifting, running, belly dancing and gymnastics.
