GROUP RUNS - YOUTH AND ADULTS
Group Runs are weekly, coached runs designed to support runners enrolled in our Adult and Youth programs. They are structured, safety-focused, and intentionally planned. Once you train with Always Running, you are included in the weekly Group Runs.
HOW GROUP RUNS FIT INTO YOUR TRAINNING
Every Adult and Youth runner receives a personalized training plan. Group Runs are built into that plan based on individual needs.
Coach Tony considers:
-
Current fitness level
-
Weekly mileage and intensity
-
Age and goals
-
Injury history and recovery needs
This ensures the group run supports long-term development while minimizing risk and overtraining.
ROUTES THAT CHANGE EVERY WEEK
Each Group Run follows a different route, with no repeats within the year.
Routes are designed to:
-
Explore Tacoma and the greater Puget Sound region
-
Include roads, trails, neighborhoods, and parks
-
Keep training varied and engaging
Adventure and destination runs are offered throughout the year.
ALL PACES AND DISTANCES ARE ACCOMODATED
Group Runs use a staggered start format so runners and walkers can train together while following their individual plans.
-
Runners start in staggered waves based on the pace defined for that workout
-
Waves are spaced every 2–3 minutes
There is no race format or ranking. The structure allows runners to move at an appropriate effort while staying connected to the group.
COACHING AND SUPPORT DURING THE RUN
Group Runs are actively coached and supported.
Coach Tony is on course providing:
-
Hydration every 2–3 miles
-
Pace and effort guidance
-
Check-ins for fatigue or injury
-
Distance adjustments when needed
Runners do not need to manage logistics during the run.
SAFETY AND ON-COURSE VISIBILITY
Safety is built into how Group Runs are planned and executed.
Before the run, runners are supported with Garmin setup so routes, pacing, and performance data are accessible. Start times and routes are selected based on daylight and conditions.
Each Group Run includes:
-
A support vehicle on course
-
First-aid and safety supplies
-
Real-time visibility of all runners using Garmin GPS
This allows for live safety monitoring, clear navigation, and better pacing and coaching decisions. Runners can view their progress, pace, and distance throughout the run.
